In the Spring of 2014, the Dexter Community Schools District was awarded the Michigan Department of Education's Whole School Technology Transformation (WSTT) grant. This grant funded a 1:1 technology initiative for the districts two PK-2 schools, Cornerstone and Bates (now Anchor and Beacon) Elementary Schools. Faced with a large influx of devices and teaching staff that needed training, the district created a Technology Coach position to help lead and guide this transformation. At this time, I had just completed my masters degree in Educational Technology, and was eager to assist the district with this important transformation project.
From the Fall of 2014 to the Spring of 2017, I served as Dexter Community Schools' Instructional Technology coach. Through this role, I oversaw the training, coaching, and modeling needed to make the WSTT grant a success. After this initial grant period, the district expanded its 1:1 technology initiative to grades 3-12, and I continued to coach, train, and model lessons for all of DCS's staff.
The presentation below was given to the Dexter Board of Education in March of 2016 during my second year as a technology coach. The presentation contains data and anecdotes from 1:1 rollouts and coaching for students and staff in DCS's PK-4 buildings, and provides an overview of the work I oversaw during my time as a technology coach.
